Rebuilding the lives of homeless people in East London
Caritas Anchor House
Not having a safe place to sleep can be devastating, and the crisis is growing. The London Borough of Newham, where we’re based, has been labelled a ‘national homelessness hotspot’. Here, one in every 25 people has nowhere to live - that’s almost 14,000 people, with many more expected to be unrecorded.
There are not many silver linings, but Caritas Anchor House (CAH) is one – the main provider of services for single homeless adults in this borough. For those who find themselves trapped in this situation, life-changing support is available. There is no single reason why someone can end up without a home. Personal circumstances and wider factors both play their part. What is certain though is that not having a home makes it harder for individuals to find a job, stay healthy and maintain relationships.
Our driving mission is to ensure that those who walk through our doors grow in confidence and maximise our support services to achieve independence, and fulfilling lives. We support over 250 homeless people each year, and no two stories are the same. That’s why we developed our Aspirations Programme – a holistic support model, tailored to support the needs of each individual that calls Caritas Anchor House home. Our practise emphasizes each of our service user’s strengths and interests, deploying these to aid progress and empowerment. Support often involves providing specialist advice and emotional support, and encouragement to participate in activities to improve confidence and wellbeing. We are dedicated to helping people break the cycle of homelessness, and believe that opportunities for growth and learning are key.
This Ramadam, we invite you to support our residents as they build their beginnings.
